When the Black Mountain Center the Arts decided to form a Community Chorus as a form of healing activity for the community after the hurricane, I thought it was a wonderful idea, so I joined. the group. Below is one of the songs with which our very first recital ended. A very fitting end to a great experience:
After the flood, what can remain but shattered homes and lasting pain?
David Bjorlin
The ground is wrecked by rubble and blood,
as wastelands widen after the flood.
After the flood, frail hope appeared from seeds we watered by our tears,
and tender shoots spring up from the mud,
as life emerges after the flood.
After the flood, repairs are planned, the helpers com to lend a hand,
and beauty blossoms out from the bud,
as God renews after the flood.
Something that I’ve been observing here as a result of a catastrophic weather event that took out a great part of our community: the generosity and selflessness of people, of perfect strangers who leave everything behind to lend a hand during hard times.
